چکیده

This paper presents a new approach to constructing a meromorphic bundle map between flat vector bundles over a compact Riemann surface having a prescribed Weil divisor (i.e. having prescribed zeros and poles with directional as well as multiplicity information included in the vector case). This new formalism unifies the earlier approach of Ball-Clancey (in the setting of trivial bundles over an abstract Riemann surface) with an earlier approach of the authors (where the Riemann surface was assumed to be the normalizing Riemann surface for an algebraic curve embedded in C with determinantal representation, and the vector bundles were assumed to be presented as the kernels of linear matrix pencils). The main tool is a version of the Cauchy kernel appropriate for flat vector bundles over the Riemann surface. Our formula for the interpolating bundle map (in the special case of a single zero and a single pole) can be viewed as a generalization of the Fay trisecant identity from the usual line bundle case to the vector bundle case in terms of Cauchy kernels. In particular we obtain a new proof of the Fay trisecant identity.

Counting Meromorphic Functions with Critical Points of Large Multiplicities

We study the number of meromorphic functions on a Riemann surface with given critical values and prescribed multiplicities of critical points and values. When the Riemann surface is CP1 and the function is a polynomial, we give an elementary way of finding this number. In the general case, we show that, as the multiplicities of critical points tend to infinity, the asymptotic for the number of ...

The resultant on compact Riemann surfaces

We introduce a notion of resultant of two meromorphic functions on a compact Riemann surface and demonstrate its usefulness in several respects. For example, we exhibit several integral formulas for the resultant, relate it to potential theory and give explicit formulas for the algebraic dependence between two meromorphic functions on a compact Riemann surface. As a particular application, the ...

Math 255 Term Paper: Fay’s Trisecant Identity

The purpose of this term paper is to give an accessible exposition of Fay’s trisecant identity [1]. Fay’s identity is a relation between the theta function and the cross-ratio function associated to a compact Riemann surface [2]. Although the majority of the paper will consist of developing the machinery needed to define these objects, let us briefly say a few words about some familiar objects ...

Uniform Approximation on Riemann Surfaces

This thesis consists of three contributions to the theory of complex approximation on Riemann surfaces. It is known that if E is a closed subset of an open Riemann surface R and f is a holomorphic function on a neighbourhood of E, then it is “usually” not possible to approximate f uniformly by functions holomorphic on all of R. In Chapter 2, we show, however, that for every open Riemann surface...

Value-sharing of meromorphic functions on a Riemann surface

We present some results on two meromorphic functions from S to Ĉ sharing a number of values where S is a Riemann surface of one of the following types: compact, compact minus finitely many points, the unit disk, a torus, the complex plane. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000): 30D35, 30F10
